The Internet and Social Media

“Reclaiming Our (Real) Lives from Social Media” The author made a real valid point on how time consuming social media can be. It’s so bizarre on how much we consume from it and how much it takes away from what we can actually be doing. I know a lot of people who are victim to procrastination due to social media. It all sums up to balance. Their was a time when I would check my social media pages like Myspace, and twitter and for some time Instagram the moment I wake up. I literally I felt like these social media outlets was the real world and what life was about. As I got older I started to distance myself from it what helped me was every semester I started I stayed away from social media more and more because I wanted to make sure my grades were good. The more I did this the less important I seen these social outlets were and I understood that the same people will still be one when I get back talking about the same thing.

I’m Quitting Social Media to Learn What I Actually Like” the addiction phase of social media is serious. Trying to let go is a hard thing it’s like a drug, anxiety and depression were good examples the author used. The simple fact that I can know everything I want to know about a person by clicking on some photos and reading post is incredible who wouldn’t assume that social media is what the real world is like, you gain an experience of the world by witnessing photos and videos and sometimes may encourage you to explore things and share that experience with your friends. The key to all of this is balance as well. But side note if there is a time that you don’t see as much feeds on any social media pages it doesn’t really mean people have found a balance it just means people are board and are waiting for a new social media page to be created.

“Why some 13-year-olds check social media 100 times a day” Well the author made it clear why teens check their social media pages so many times a day. 61% is for likes and comments, this is a high for teens this gives them their status in life. 36% to see if their friends are having fun without them, this is the lonely stage, and not wanting to feel like the only one who is not active. 21% yes cyberbullying has been and will be on ongoing issue on any social media page.
