Is Social Media the new way of life?

This generation is heavily impacted by the Internet worldwide but not everyone online is social. Some people commit crimes online, some are just bloggers and some just use social media to promote businesses or business products. I believe everyone is online because technology has advanced so much. To be online in 2016 is basically a description of who you are. If you not online, your pretty much considered a ghost.

According to “The Great Wall of Facebook’s Frank Vogelstein” over two million people have a Facebook account which is one-fifth of the of the world. Plus, you add in the other social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and social media’s new sensation; Snapchat. This estimate shows how much the world is heavily connected to the online world. Its like they have made it apart of themselves. Growing up, I did not have a social media account until I was 15. Parents were a whole lot more tougher with computers and cellphone. Now its not just the parent, its the child, the parent his or herself and the new generation of adults that have grown up with the comforts of social media. This article also states that there is pretty much an internet war; Google Vs Facebook. This heated mainstream war for World Wide Web supremacy is because each company wants to have the most users in in the world. In my opinion, if Facebook is really at war with Google, they would lose in the most ugliest manner because Google is worth quadruple the amount of Facebook and Google is the most mainstreamed search engine in the world.

The Second article, “ The Web Means the End of Forgetting” talks about social media posts and what are the dangers of what you post. i couldn’t get to finish reading this article but i did read the part where Stacy Synder was denied her teaching degree over her posting a drinking picture. This is just shocking and disappointing how this woman’s hard work and time devoted to obtaining this huge achievement was just snatched from her all because of a drinking picture that stated “Drunken Pirate”. Social media can be very harmful and very career-threating in Stacy’s case. I agree with the statement “Posts can come back to haunt you” because I have witnessed people get exploited by their sinister past wrongdoings and explicit images of themselves. Social media should not be anyone’s diary or journal. Anybody can be happy in life, the internet does not need to know why.
