Apps and Digital Currency

Apps are changing the web by less people using the browser or websites. If you use the same personal websites often, I believe your best bet is to download the application. I downloaded the Facebook app to give quicker responses and accessing information.

Digital currency will be use to replace paper money in the future because it is cheaper. The government spends a lot of money on producing money, so much, that it they actually loses money when they print the penny.

The article “This Mobile Browser is Dead, Long Live the App,” by Ewan Spence, has a valid view point “users are turning away from the browser and relying on applications”; however, websites are good for an introduction and temporary visitors. Apps work well for casual, everyday or regular visitors. I have an android and only download apps that I plan to use a lot like Facebook, Instagram, Bleacher Report and others. I don’t download more apps because it makes your battery die faster and my phone does not have enough gigabytes. To be honest, I don’t need an App for everything, only essentials.

The article “The Fierce Battle for the Soul of Bitcoin,” by Robert Mcmillan, is about Bitcion and how it should be used. Bitcoin is digital money. One problem with Bitcoin is safety. Hackers can hack the network and steal the money from users. Coin providers must insure clients’ information is safe. Another problem is users forgetting their passwords. In the current set up, if users forget their password they can no longer access their account. Bitcocoin battle to make it to make it to mainstream bring into question how it should be used. Is it something for the black or mainstream market? I believe once they figure out how to make it safe it will make it to the mainstream.

Apps and Digital Currency

“The Mobile Browser is Dead, Long Live the App” speaks on how people are using their mobile browser less and less everyday. Apps are taking over the scene and people are slowly stopping the use of their mobile browser. It was shown in the stats of this article as Apps had a use of 84% and 14% on mobile browser. That is a huge difference and I believe that the percentage of apps being used will increase over the course of a few years.

“The Rise of Chat Apps” talks about a few different apps and social media outlets and the different things they do. He also goes to point out who the app is for and why some people would choose that specific app. From watching my mother her favorite  and one and only app is “What’s App” which lets her talk to her family back in the Dominican Republic without any fees. She enjoys very much and think it’s the best thing invented. Some of these apps are out for great use and they all have a specific reason to be out. Sometimes, my mother becomes too addicted and blocks me out like most teenagers do today, however, I approve of her using the app because it makes her happy, with the app letting her talk to her friends and family back in her homeland.

The Fierce Battle for the Soul of Bitcoin” talks about it’s way of using money with an online wallet and using money electronically. The transformation that apps have taken in this world, are ridiculous yet outstanding. Some apps that are made are pure gold. They have everything you may want and need. Apps are changing the web in a way that the web may not be needed anymore. Everyone is making apps left and right that give you the use to anything that you need. Digital currency can be used for great things, such as anonymous donations and anything that you may want to remain anonymous in.

Apps and Digital Currency

The relevance of apps have never been higher than it’s current state now in digital media today. Apps serve as a channel for any source of information along with personal entertainment services; these apps can revolve around social media outlets, tv entertainment, etc. The readings The Rise of Chat Apps by Mat Honan, The Mobile Browser Is Dead, Long Live the App by Ewan Spence, and The Fierce Battle For The Soul of Bitcoin by Robert McMillan all bring forth defining elements on the direction media is heading in thanks to the presence of downloadable applications. The general conclusion drawn is that apps are unavoidable, they’re a must have when thought of in terms of keeping up with the tendencies of our society. Most importantly, applications of many sorts allow for controlled and regulated interactions between different parties.

One of the biggest shifts in media is the prevalent use of media apps as search engines. The topic is discussed further by Ewan Spence in his article The Mobile Browser Is Dead, Long Live the App. Social media applications are a prime example of this concept in action. A vast number of individuals log into their preferred app in order to receive pieces of information/news that they would normally go to their browser to look up. In the presence of applications, the information is presented to the user in a more attractive, personal manner in addition to allowing users to easily share it with their friends. This flows into another manner in which apps are changing media, and that is the popularity of chat apps as discussed in The Rise of Chat Apps by Mat Honan. Chat applications allow for users to have a free platform in which they can interact with one another without being charged for the services of such app. This breaks down any restrictions on communication that once existed prior to the rise of chat applications; allowing for users to speak, share photos, and communicate with one another regardless of their location. One common trend being seen in the world of apps is the inclining uses of the digital platform in order to carry out real life transactions. A concept relating to this is discussed in the article The Soul of Bitcoin by Robert McMillan. Bitcoin is a service which allows users to establish a virtual currency in order to carry out everyday business transactions at an easier, more efficient rate with much less risk. Services like Bitcoin among others allow for users to eliminate the barriers of distance and difficulties of physical transactions by letting them carry out their actions online without putting them at risk of immediate danger.

The power behind the system of applications is hard to put into words really, the benefits are endless. While some individuals feel that applications somehow hold us back from technological advancement, they can not argue against the gains that come from using them. Applications give digital media users a platform to further increase their interaction(s) with other parties in regards to whatever it is they’re interested in. It allows for the flow of communication, both socially and professionally, to happen on a grander scale while at the same time expanding the room for opportunities to arise.

Apps and Digital Currency

Ewan Spence’s “The mobile Brower is Dead, Long Live The App” touched on some basic statistics as to how “Users are turning away from the browser and relying on applications. Anyone who relies on reaching out to users should be paying attention to these numbers, and have a strategy to deal with the app issue”. This is true. The app is gradually taking away the browser. One of the reasons is because, technology has advanced to the extent that, almost everything seems to be running at a faster pace, and it’s obvious the app is just few taps and clicks unlike the browser.

Mat Honan’s article “The Rise of Chat Apps” also made a very interesting illustration about “Chat Attack – A handy guide to finding which mobile messaging app is right for you”. He listed about five apps, their functions and its target audience. For Example, WhatsApp is “a basic service to send text, pictures, and voice messages”. Its audience, “anyone who doesn’t want to pay SMS fees. People with family and friends overseas”. It goes on and on with other chat apps like Facebook messenger, Snapchat, Kik etc.

Bitcoin is “a type of digital currency in which encryption techniques are used to regulate the generation of units of currency and verify the transfer of funds, operating independently of a central bank” (google). According to the author; “The Fierce Battle for the soul of Bitcoin” made several essential points in his article about how “spending money within the bitcoin network would be essentially free. With a digital wallet and payment-processing services, you could, say, pay that cash-only cab driver with bitcoins via your smartphone”. Similarly, like the “way2ride” app where users hail taxi and finally pay with it. This is efficient and no hassle.

This is how the advancement of our digital world is changing virtually everything in our lives.

How are Apps changing the web? What will digital currency be used for in the future?

Even before the popularity of Bitcoin, our American currency, in my opinion was already digital for the most part. Debit cards, and credit cards now operate digitally. In the United States currency is digital, based on my experience most money is not cash available at hand it is monitored and managed digitally by mobile apps such as chase mobile app, Google wallet, Digit Co and many more apps. The most important and expensive purchases and investments people makes are not cash purchases they are based on credit, which is monitored digitally by a bank or lender. Cars and houses are an example of an expensive purchase where cash is most times not used, instead currency is exchanged digitally by means of credit or debit accounts. I can see an easy transition to a fully digital currency system very soon.
Apps are taking over our mobile devices the numbers on the graph in Forbes article and show that 14% of connected devices and 86% are being used for apps. I personally prefer apps to my mobile web browser because my app is gong to run smoothly were my browser. I use mobile apps for social media, banking, and monitoring my credit. Apps and digital currency will operate as one unit in the near future.

Apps and Digital Currency

“Bitcoin: The Currency of the Future?” Bitcoin could be the future of currency. However, I think digital currency that’s govern like credit wills till be in the future as well, the good thing about Bitcoin is that it’s untraceable. Its like cash its just a transaction with no name and no other personal information to it. The author made a valid point, that many people would prefer to make a transaction without being recorded and another thing about it, is government has no control over it so users would not have to worry about being taxed. The no tax can back fire on us because we use tax to pay for non-profit businesses that supports society. And when involve your self with online business there are criminals as well as there are criminals in the real world. Just imagining someone being able to hack into your bitcoin account and wipe out all that you have. I feel we may need some kind of governance over bitcoin to ensure some safety in currency.

A Bitcoin Believer’s Crisis of Faith” since bitcoin is a new form of currency, it means that the resources of bitcoin is scarce I believe that there is only the amount of $21 million in bitcoin which is not enough for a fair game. Mike Hearn unfortunately had to be a victim of online bullying as he received many of death threats from other bitcoin users. With all the crisis and evil schemes of bitcoin users, Mike Hearn still has faith in bitcoin but believes that someone needs to manage the software so that it can feel like a real professional business.

Google and the Future of Apps” the only issue with the potential Google streaming application is that it uses up a lot of data and can only work well on good Wi-Fi connection. The author also made a good point on how Google will delegate payment to each owner of the applications they have in their streaming software. Streaming seems to work well when it comes to music, but even then the artist ends up getting nothing out the streaming deal. All streaming services needs to figure out a way to operate and pay off their depth to owners of content and apps.

Open source media 1

According to the article “Open Source Refers to a program in which the source code is available to the general public
For use or modification from its original design free of charge.
It has a collective effort of individuals contributing towards a common goal in a more-or-less informal and loosely structured way. This is an advantage because allows a variety of ideas and improvement quicker and easier than the traditional way. Being an open source company have many advantages like having
A software package created by thousands
Instead of a handful, they free themselves from the severe vendor lock-in that can afflict users of proprietary packages, also Open source software is generally free, and so is a world of support through the vibrant communities surrounding each piece of software. I personally think if more companies would implement the open source strategy; it would improve the company it self and the employees to grow together. The open source structure would give employees a sense of empowerment and worthiness; knowing that they’re makin some sort of contribution.

Class activity

1. Our activity was to split the class into 2 groups. The groups had to come up with a new flavor to add the V8 Splash’s product. Group 1 was assigned a boss and the boss delegated the work to his employees, while he gave no input. The group had to use the regular business ways and couldn’t collaborate with each other. Group 2 had no boss. Everyone was free to input their own ideas and discuss them amongst each other. We hoped that both groups would be able to still come up with fresh ideas, even though the first group was hindered in creativity.
2. I believe we were successful. Both groups came up with new, fresh ideas that could actually be implemented by the V8 company.
3. Yes it achieved our goals. Both groups were still able to create ideas, even though one group was stifled by the old ways.
4. We learned that open source is great to explore new ideas and new innovations, but as far as products are concerned the old managerial hierarchy structure is also useful. The two can go hand in hand if collaborated.
5. If we had to use this activity as a research tool, we would switch the groups then ask what style was better and why. We would also ask if they got better results, how did the the work ethic differ from being on their original team, or on the new team.
