Digital Media

For the first article “How Internet Marketing will affect various industries in 2015” I do agree that social media is the most effective way to build your brand and get it out there amongst the masses. For example “Check out my channel Mr Orchard Beach on Youtube and hit that subscribe button!” No but seriously if you have a business but no visible presence on social media you might as well be sabotaging it! I also agree that the real estate industry should use targeted marketing as well because gone are the days of people driving around the neighborhood looking for a for sale sign.

In the Viral Marketing For The Real World reading, I found the whole marketing to scheme to be interesting. It’s pretty much giving the consumer the ability to share marketting adds just like they share content on the web that they like and feel like their friends or family would also take a common interest in. I can also see this as a bad thing because you may have friends that like to tag you in everything and then all of a sudden you are exposed to extra ads that you don’t even use or wish to see.

The last article I read was; “5 Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work” It was very informative and eye opening. Especially when the article shed light on the topic of “How Viral Campaigns Fail” In a campaign, you want it to go viral in a good way but you don’t want to accidentally  or neglectfully create a slogan that could be taken the wrong way. Instead of the campaign going in the direction you want it to go in, one word that could be taken out of context and now you campaign has reached heights of popularity that you did not intend for.

Professor, I totally forgot to post this on thursday night but I do have a screen shot on my iPhone showing that this was complete on 3/31

Open Source Media

Commons-based Peer Production and Virtue” the author spoke on the importance of open source. The great thing about open source is that no singular person owns it, it is a collection of people who have a common goal and giving contributions to that goal. One of the biggest Operating systems is Linux, free software has created such an impact that government even took notice to it. Companies like IBM have invested a billion dollars into Linux to keep the server running. “what makes free software interesting from a social or moral perspective is its social and human structure (NISSENBAUM).” The author used the example of wiki which was a free open source software that allowed people edit documents and archives. This is a perfect example of open source because plenty of documents are on Wiki from history, celebrities, etc. and the wiki site is open to the public for anyone to edit and change information. Even with that kind of freedom people seem to respect one another’s work and have the same goal of delivering information through wiki.

The Political Economy of Open Source Software” The problem with open source is that it’s free and there is no real direct way to monetize off of it. The author used a good example with Coke and how they have formulas to their product that no one can reproduce or improve. Intellectual property rights provide protections for innovators like Coke but that’s not the same for Linux or anyone who uses free open source operating systems. Some developers like Microsoft allows users to purchase and use their software on their computers but would not allow users to reproduce it. Apple are very strategic when it comes to software they send updates to all apple users which they do not monetize from directly however, they create certain features that can only be available on their new phone which forces users to go out and buy. Having free open source is great for people who wants experience in coding, but for compensation it may not be the best fit.

Post Digital Marketing & Public Relations Group project by Wilfred, Jason and Gloria

Gloria’s response:

“Our Digital Marketing &Public Relations Group Project was very informative and engaging. The dynamics of our group consisted of Brains, Personality, and Creativity. Collectively we did an amazing job in gaining, informing while sustaining our classmate’s attention. Wilfred did a wonderful job with the Digital Marketing &Public Relations PowerPoint slides. The slides were very detailed, clear and consistent. Each Marketing term was well defined and broken down in a relatable sense.  Jason did a fantastic job engaging and captivating the class while defining the terms, pros, and cons of Digital Marketing &Public Relations. He added humor to the PowerPoint presentation. I believe I did a great job with the visuals and class activity part. The twist that was later added made the activity portion more interesting to say the least.  The goal of the project was to help our fellow classmates understand the key roles that Digital Marketing and Public Relations play in established a product and untimely building a Brand.  Digital Marketing and Public Relations uses many different strategies to gain the publics acknowledgement and trust. The class activity allowed the students to put themselves in the position of Digital Marketers as well as a PR firm.  The girls did a great job in establishing their assigned product (Wine) they really understood the needs and the demands of their target audience. The girls Digital Marketing plans/ Public Relation strategy was well throughout and put together. The guy’s products (makeup /cosmetics) was more of a challenge for them. However, they did a great job in researching their competitors. The guys were actually able to name different top makeup/cosmetics brands which showed they were aware of the need to research and understand their competitors. They also understood free gifts/incentives is a great way to gain a great relationship with clients, this is especially important for a newer cosmetic line. In the group activity there were no winner or losers, overall everyone did an excellent job!”

Thanks Gloria !

Digital Marketing

Marketing is the one of the major ways businesses and companies promote their products and get advertise their products. Over the years the marketing industry has welcomed many changes because of the advancement of the internet and social media. The new modification is called viral marketing. In Viral Marketing for the Real World, it says “the standard viral-marketing model is based on an analogy with the spread of infectious disease. It assumes that one starts with a seed of individuals who spread a message by infecting their friends, where the expected number of new infectious people generated by each existing one is called the ‘reproduction rate.’” The fast spreading of ideas is what makes marketing in the digital world much easier and more relevant than traditional marketing. People are more able to promote themselves and their products with things like Hotmail, YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, etc. With the success of the digital marketing there comes responsibility to produce products that people want to buy because it is possible to get negative feedback that can damage the reputation of the brand. In the Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work, one of the key points is to “think outside of traditional marketing” which mean that you can’t just use a life-less image of the product, you need something that is interactive and will draw attention to what you want to sell because you are competing with in the digital world where things have to be brought to life to get a response.

Digital Media

In “How Internet Marketing Will Affect Various Industries in 2015” John Rampton made a prediction of Internet trends that will evolve in 2015, and he could not have been more accurate. In the article he touched on all forms media. Starting with social media which at this point is a no brainer. Social media is probably the most effective was to advertise any product to almost everyone in the world. He suggests “if business do not get on social media they may be left behind in coming years” Then he touched on Mobile Marketing notating that more people than ever before are frequent users of their Mobile device and Marketers are aware and finding ways to gain more revenue. Targeted Advertising is another affective marketing strategy once the consumer makes any inclination of their interest Target Ad kicks. SEO & Content Marketing, Visual Content is extremely important in marketing, consumers identify with visual stimulation. Real- Time Marketing offers consumers more interaction with products and people, a method that enables consumers to input ideas in real time is so innovative in marketing. John Rampton urges business to “break away from traditional and use internet marketing.” There is no de denying the fact internet marketing is the new age of marketing strategy. In “Viral Marketing for the Real World” by Duncan Watt and Jonah Peretti , viral marketing is compared to free lunch. Although is was a strange comparison by the end of the article I gained a better understanding of the analogy. In recent years Viral Marketing has really made a name for itself with social media on the rise. Viral Marketing is a great, fast and effective way to Market products to large group.

Digital Marketing and Public Relations

Marketing has changed from trying to make Ads visible to a large number of people to being able to knowing who your demographic is and being able to target them directly. You can’t google something without seeing an Ad about that exact product thanks to Google AdSense. Also, social media is such a great tool for brand promotion. We may not think of ourselves as a brand, but in many ways we are and social media sites like Linked In allow us to promote our brand to employers. We do not just use cell phones to make calls and send texts, and they serve as our primary source of information. This is key for marketers because by knowing this they can tailor their Ads for mobile consumption. Viral Marketing is very important because it just takes planting a “seed” and waiting for the news about your product or service to spread like wild fire.

Got rid of the middle man; which allows artist

song on Instagram without any prior warning or advertising

by any broadcasting company. Which is a advantage to cut

Internet Marketing

Internet Marketing

The Internet has evolved into a dynamic source of information as well as an extraordinary marketing tool that is able to reach nearly any user. The Internet has become a source for gathering timely information and converting data into profitable results at a faster rate for many firms and individuals in this revolutionary era of the twenty first century. Participants of the economy, from households to foreign markets, have found this dynamic system to be a way to reach the masses with a large percentage of the Earth having access to this knowledge. The marketing and advertising industry have gained significantly in the creation of such a wonderful thing. The Internet allows users to search out products with ease and makes doing research on given products that much more effective. Deploying Internet technologies can take attention away from focusing on core business functions; however the impact of the Internet on marketing and advertising has enabled businesses to effectively communicate with consumers and demographically hit a broader audience.

Marketing and advertising in the twenty first century have taken a whole new route in hitting the targeted market. The goal of any company when marketing a product is to sell that product to anyone that sees its advertisement. Being able to effectively market is what will keep products moving off the shelves for consumers to buy, as well as allowing businesses to thrive in these times of such economic insecurity. Consumers always want to know more about any product they are going to buy. Being able to research a product is crucial in any industry for sales.

Marketing

How does marketing shift in the digital world? As technology begins to advance, the spectrums among the internet does as well. As this occurs, companies become more diligent in promoting their products as we travel along the web, use our phones, and sign into our social media accounts. Ultimately advertising is vast…and a bit intrusive.
As seen in this quote “Companies, unlike diseases, can use standard advertising methods to create potentially enormous seeds. If the initial seed is big enough, then even if R is less than 1, the burnout process will persist for multiple generations, thereby reaching many additional people.”
Companies are going above and beyond to ensure that ads become lifelong and almost like a disease.

Digital Marketing

It is no mistake to say that today; we are living in a digital world.  Most of today’s business that is being conducted is through promotion via online.  Making sure to keep it short and simple, this is a popular way to keep customers attentions when promoting business ads.   Knowing that marketing online is the fastest way for an item to be purchased, it is making all business owners think that they must transition from their old habits into a marketing online company to generate sales and to become popular and to stay that way.  In the readings, it explains that if you are not on social media marketing your business, you better get on board.  Marketing your business through a social media site is the fastest and easiest way to get noticed and gain attention.  For one, mostly everybody today has a social media account.  Weather it is Facebook, twitter, snapchat, YouTube it doesn’t matter, you’re linked in the cyber world.  Many people in the world has the same interests as other people and to know that, people share information, that will then be shared on, that will result in being shared on some more and before you know it, your brand will be a household name.  Marketing in the digital world, has created and opened the doors for a lot of online shopping for goods and services to be purchased.  One of the good benefits of marketing your business in the digital world is getting the help and support you need from comments and reviews, which many people, myself included see it is a very helpful and beneficiary tool we all depend on.  When marketing through the digital world you have to make your name pop with very few to little words.  I feel companies do this to keep the audience curious as wanting to know who you are and with that said they will want to research what your company is about. In today’s world, clicking is very important, and the more clicks companies see the more they’re happy because they know their business is being talked about and shared on amongst others.
