Marketing in the Digital World

In the article “How Internet Marketing Will Affect Various Industries in 2015” it talks about with the internet playing a bigger role in today’s society, there are no limits to how you market your products, goods or services. Internet marketing can be used within social media apps especially through twitter as you can interact easier with the market you wish. Marketing has also shifted by targeting audiences by using what they search for and later seeing it on other websites you visit, mostly on social media websites. There has been a shift from the old way of marketing going from door to door trying to sell your product. However, now you can do it all from home with great promotion.

In the article “Viral Marketing for the Real World” it also shows how marketing can be done in different ways. This article states “ We propose an approach called big-seed marketing, which combines viral-marketing tools with old-fashioned mass media in a way that yields far more predictable results than “purely” viral approaches like word-of-mouth marketing.” In other words, now only are they using a new marketing tool they’re also using the old school marketing ways to have one of a kind marketing tool. They also state that their new marketing tool goes more viral then a strategy of going door to door for example to sell your goods and services. The new is bigger and better and if you have the right tools you just might be alright. You have to be creative with your marketing skills and think outside the box.

In the last article “5 Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work, speaks about before trying to promote your product  or services, you have to send a message with it. Within your message you have to try and make your audience participate in your activities so that they will grow and build interest into your product or services. They showed an example of a mishap that Kellogs UK had when they tweeted a message that wasn’t so kind and could have been easily misread. Which of course happened, and later addressed the situation in a careful manner thoroughly explaining their movement. In order to obtain great marketing skills a huge step belongs with the audience and how much they trust you and your company. Marketing is now mostly in the digital world. However, you have to know how to build your audience, how to maintain your audience, and how to sell to your audience.

Viral Marketing

There are pros and cons of virial marketing but one of the biggest is getting noticed by people and the industry you want to be in. lots of people want to be the next big thing and the way to do that is through the internet is a cat video or a song cover. In How Internet Marketing Will Affect Various Industries in 2015 John says Marketing has changed in a big way now with all the different types of media outlets and people are really becoming their own boss. In Viral Marketing for the Real World Watts sates that big industry companies now have to combat the new marketing medium because of all the self-promoters they are forced to pay more money for ads and campaigns. In 5 Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work Matthew Yeoman tells the readers about five different marketing tactics that would help an up and comer. From what I’ve been through in terms of marketing it can be very cut throat and demanding. I was a designer for a non-profit health care organization and the main goal was to keep our clinics doors open, so I was tasked with the job of making sure everything the interns produce is up to par with the VP of our department’s tastes. There was times where I didn’t leave the office until midnight because we had to have a certain kind of paper to print our designs on. I had to make sure that all the that things I designed was beautiful and better then our competition.

Internet Marketing, Public Relations and Viral Marketing

Internet marketing has become the new flavor of selling, producing and promoting products and businesses and it’s brand developments. The way marketing shifts in the digital world depends on how you promote your franchise/business and what aspects of social media do you dig in to. Digital marketing shifts depending how well the product is promoted. Some ideas can be described the best ideas ever and turn out to be nothing and there are some ideas that people go ” I don’t think this idea is ever going to work” and those ideas turn out to be YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Apple and many other amazing franchises.

How Marketing will Affect Various Industries in 2015 by John Rampton ran down a long list of many different social media platforms that have helped business people elevate their franchises such as social media itself, mobile, SEO and content marketing, Visual Content and many more. Social Media is by far one of if not, the strongest form of marketing a company because it is the best way to make your company shine. It makes promoting products and services much easier and less stressful. One example I can use is Amazon because they have a personal chat system. Even though Amazon has it’s own phone number, this shows how much Amazon has evolved. It is almost like you are personal messaging someone about a missed purchase.

Viral Marketing in the Real World by Duncan Watts and Jonah Peretti spoke of how people market their ideas to spread it to millions of people around the world. According to Viral Marketing in the Real World by Duncan Watts and Jonah Peretti, Viral marketing is described spreading a disease. I agree with this statement because some businesses and products have evolved over time with viral marketing. Some people have become very rich because of simple videos. Viral marketing is a One-Shot deal kind of trend. Most attempts do fail but some attempts actually go viral and help people become wealthy and famous.

5 Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work spoke of tactics proven to help today’s marketers help their products and services go viral. The first was to “Think outside viral marketing”. Since a lot of marketers have a habit of trying to do things that past marketers have done, it is important that you think of different methods to spread your franchise. the second is “Bring your marketing to the real world”. Once you have come up with a way to spread the word, you can now try to bring your grand idea to life. The third is “Take your products to extremes”. A lot of marketers sometimes get into this “safe mode” where they are afraid to take chances when it comes to promoting. Sometimes you have to show people that your brand is the brand that they want to be talking about and also show society that you are not afraid to promote your brand no matter who is the competition. The Fourth is “Reward your Customers”. Once a customer has shown interest. Reward them with great customer service and your product so they can keep coming back. Lastly, The Fifth is “Team with Unlikely Partners”. You do not always have to team up with your casual household namessuch as Apple, Microsoft, or Linux,  you can always take a struggling franchise and elevate it or you can team up with household names to elevate your franchise.

Digital Marketing

Rayshawn Parrilla

Marketing is the business process of promoting goods while providing services to satisfy the needs of customers. Usually products are advertised on the internet, videos or television. Moreover, marketing helps companies develop demand for their products. While modern technology and the internet continue to rise, the element of Digital Marketing is becoming a popular trend. As of 2015, various companies are relying on the internet as a major source of information to promote their brands, increase their sales and attract more customers.

There is no question, companies ideal process for marketing are shifting over to the digital world. As the internet becomes more fluent to our culture, businesses are using it as a strategy to evolve their brand. In the article “How Internet Marketing will Affect Various Industries in 2015” Forbes discusses marketing tactics companies use through the internet. A specific aspect required of digital marketing will be companies promoting their brand through Social Media. Through Social Media, there are influential trends that usually attract customers, allowing the product to become more accessible and recognizable. Another example of a digital marketing strategy is the Mobile devices used across the world. Mobile is a strategy used to encourage business flow. This idea is beneficial because individuals are very well attached to their mobile devices and carry them at all times. Owned by many, Mobile Marketing allows customers to instantly receive emails and message ads as well as “access content on the go.” In addition, articles “5 Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work” and “Viral Marketing for the Real World” both highlight Viral Marketing enforced through the Internet. Viral Marketing is a technique which relies on web sites or customers to pass on marketing messages to other sites and users. This concept is beneficial for businesses due to the spread of information, opinions and the growth within companies.

It is evident; the process of marketing is shifting over to the digital world. Its aspect helps increase sales, promotion of brands and expands businesses. Digital Marketing comprise of strategies like Internet trends, Mobile and Viral Marketing. These concepts all attracts and build new audience as well as generate more traffic for business. As of 2015, Going digital is the new trend of Marketing.

Digital Marketing and PR

In the past decade the digital world has become a growing platform for uses of any kind, marketing along with advertisement are a couple of those uses. The articles How Internet Marketing Will Affect Various Industries in 2015 by John Rampton, Viral Marketing for the Real World by Duncan Watts, and 5 Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work by Matthew Yeoman all bring up excellent perspectives about marketing in its digital existence. Each author brings up valid points of what digital marketing is composed of and how to do it successfully. The common theme from all the readings is that when it comes to marketing on a digital platform, the rules are completely different than those of traditional, old fashioned marketing. The biggest shift in digital marketing is the variable of the “opinion leader”, their role, as well as their influence over the public.

One of the most undervalued marketing tactics is the value of a person’s opinion on a product/service when discussing it to their peers. This is where the concept of opinion leaders are born; an individual whose thoughts and opinions are held in high praise by those who surround them. The digital world allows for opinion leaders of all kinds to voice their thoughts, making it easily accessible and heard by their perspective public in an instant. In his article Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work, Mr. Watts introduces the term “big seed marketing” which is made possible because of the presence of opinion leaders. Big seed marketing is an effective viral marketing technique because people are the ones spreading the word about a particular product, without their contribution of opinion exchange to others it would not work. Arguably, your peers can sell you a product better than a salesman without the intention of doing so, just through basic conversation.

Mobile phones along with social media are the thriving outlets that everyone uses for conversation in today’s society. John Rampton in his article How Internet Marketing Will Affect Various Industries in 2015 states how cell phones and social media are shifts in marketing realm themselves. This allows for communication between all parties to happen almost in an instant; the presence of social media allows marketers to engage the public to their product in a non-traditional sense. It also a platform that gives everyone a voice, and when that oppurtunity is present, most take advantage of it. Through the use of these, it is effortlessly easy for almost anyone to become an opinion leader when regarding an issue or product. As digital marketing grows, we see the focus become more about individuals selling a product to each other, rather than the company selling it to the masses as a whole.

Digital Marketing and Public Relations

Marketing strategies over the few years have twisted from its traditional way to that of digital marketing. Digital marketing has become a top priority for marketers. “According to a survey of marketing executives by Gartner, Inc. The survey also found that marketing budgets increased 10 percent in 2015, with 61 percent of respondents saying they expect budgets to increase again in 2016”.

The use of the internet plays a monumental role in this paradigm shift Marketing. In Forbes, John Rampton in his article “How Internet Marketing Will Affect Industries in 2015” made several vital points as far digital marketing is concern. He acknowledges the fact that, “…the internet landscape continues to change, so will the marketing practices regarding SEO, paid advertising, organic search, content marketing, social media interactions, and more”. There are no doubts marketers have taken a great advantage of the internet as a medium to advertise their products to its consumers and yes, as John Rampton already mentioned, businesses refusing to taking advantage of this era of digitization, may negatively be affected marketing wise.

Again, the article “Viral Marketing for the Real World” by Duncan Watts and Jonah Peretti also made a fantastic point about the viral marketing strategies whereby one person or few persons spread an idea or marketing product with less seeds but eventually spreads all over (epidemic). I strongly believe in this approach but my main concern is that, a thorough research should be done on this approach. Its not surprising this technique failed on several attempts on other products over the years.

Jeff Bullas’s “5 Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work” pretty much touched base with how viral marketing tactics rapidly circulate so widely from one Internet user to another (like virus or infection). I my opinion, viral marketing or advertisement strategies should be made lively for consumers to really get into it. As he mentioned, some public figures or celebrities like Katy Perry could be used for ads. Attached is an image I found quite interesting sharing.

Marketing

Marketing has shifted the digital world by use of the Internet, consumers becoming involved in the advertisement of products and techniques that can help a product go viral. Companies are looking for more efficient ways to sell products.

The article “How Internet Marketing will Affect Various Industries in 2015” gave insight into the key aspects of marketing on the Internet. Marketing on the Internet is important because it increases brand awareness. Having a presence on social media “makes your brand seem real and accessible while encouraging brand conversation about the products and services.” For up and coming entrepreneurs the Internet makes it easy to display your products to clients. Internet marketing could turn unknown products into household names.

The article “Viral Marketing for the Real World” is about companies using consumers, or fans of their ads, to help with start the conversation about the advertisement of the product. I believe this is a good idea because if the product is useful consumers will tell other consumers. For example, I’m a “foodie,” I enjoy eating something new for the first time, and I often use Facebook to repost popular or trending restaurants. When someone enjoys something they often want to share it with their friends.

The article “ 5 Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work” contains information on techniques to help your company’s advertisement campaign go-viral. Media that often goes viral are usually interesting, funny or entertaining. I believe one of the best techniques to make media go viral is to attach a celebrity or known figure to advertisement. Consumers like to see something old when they’re discovering something new. The article mentioned Katy Perry “because each Katy Perry video contains a key message: buy my album”. The consumers assume they’re just watching a Katy Perry video and it’s also an advertisement for hero her album.

Activity Blog

My activity was to split the class into 2 groups and focus on the impact of Social Media. One group was to concentrate and create the negative effects of Social Media while the second group did the same for the positive effects. After both groups where finished with their ideas, we compound together as one and target solutions to the negative effects of Social Media.

Over all, with the help of my fellow classmates, I felt my goal was accomplished. The class came up with intriguing and well put together ideas pertaining to the negatives and positives Social Media has on our culture. In the same sense, there were plenty laughter and fun amongst each other.

Though I have done plenty of research on Social Media, there is always something new to learn. Through my classmates, I learned the positive effects can out weigh the negatives if we as a culture teach and learn the proper use of Social Media.

In further research, I would like to continue to solve the problems pertaining to Social Media. Social Media can be the extremely beneficial to our culture. If we can eliminate negative effects such as addiction problems, cyberbullying etc. social media can be an informative source of technology.

Q: What did you learn from the experience?

A: I learned that the Internet and Social Media outlets can better they’re logos and always upgrade to something better. I also learned that there’s so much to learn from on the Internet and Social Media, and there are many types of different social media outlets not just for social entertainment but for gathering and organizing information.

Q: How would you take this project further as a research tool and what results would you hope to achieve?

A: This project can be taken further as a research tool as to find out more on the deep background of social networks and see how they came up and where their ideas came from. Results I would hope to achieve are how can one start a social media network and where do the funds, and ideas come from.
